THRIVE

THRIVE is the first of RIOPY’s albums to include strings alongside the evocative and powerful pianism which has earned the pianist-composer an ever-growing international following. As well as new compositions for solo piano, the album features the composer-pianist’s take on famous music which has most inspired him, including works by Satie, Pachelbel, Beethoven, Fauré, Debussy and Chopin. He has transformed their much-loved melodies into cinematic scores of his own and composed lush arrangements for string orchestra.

“The idea was to show that the same piece can have several facets and arouse different emotions depending on the arrangement,” recalls RIOPY. “Music is a living thing. It’s all very organic: a human being produces a sound by touching or breathing into an instrument; I never tire of this magic. To combine the sounds of bass and violins with my piano brought me immense joy”

BLISS [extended]

After living in England for 15 years, eventually with dual French and British nationality, RIOPY returned to France in August 2O2O to compose and record a new album. As a new father, he decided to move his family to the south of France to spend the summer surrounded by nature and bring to life his third album. He recorded the 11 tracks in the house La Vernatelle, which gave its name to one of the project’s flagship titles. Bliss revealed a new facet of RIOPY’s talent, affected by the influence of fatherhood: a calmer universe that embodies a period of bliss and newfound serenity.

TREE OF LIGHT

¨It is about evolution. Our evolution as human beings, going towards a shift of life and of light. Tree of Light – a Call to Arms, the first track of the album, is a call to humanity about what we have become and what we can become, on high alert for our survival as a specie as described by climate change towards the quest of happiness, wisdom and peace. The Tree of Light is powered by the music and act as a catalyst for evolution.”

RIOPY

“This album has been my catharsis since the music started coming to me almost ten years ago. It’s the world seen through my eyes, or rather, through my piano. It’s evolved into a patchwork of emotions, experiences, beliefs – music that put an end to struggle. From On A Cloud to Old Soul, the pieces here came to life and brought hope when I thought nothing could save me. They each have their place in my development; they became my language.”
